A passion project inspired by Kyiv’s historical architecture and directly referenced from one of the old buildings in the city center — Reiterska street. I aimed for a vintage fantasy book aesthetic with a modern neon-brick touch. That’s because, on the one hand, many fascinating stories happened there across centuries, and on the other hand, this area is known for its vibrant nightlife and underground creative scene.

There’s also a sense of melancholy, as many historical buildings in my country are in poor condition or being gentrified. That feeling encouraged me to make art about this building — even if it doesn’t have anything to do with reality. Also, the cats are there just for fun.

Modeling and animation milestones

It was mostly all modelled and animated in Cinema 4D with only a few 2D elements: cats' animation, bricks' texture, lightning and typography. I was aiming for a somewhat handdrawn aesthtic so I used Sketch and Toons renderer to achieve it. The house was also removed from the city context and put into a fantasy forest environment that dynamically blended with urban style from the lightning. I AI generated the brick texture, composited it with the main scene and achieved dynamic transitions within After Effects.
