'I was making a film about Franz Nopcsa, an aristocratic spy who also founded the field of palaeobiology. He drew sketches of extinct creatures in his scientific works, and I wanted to bring one of them to life in the film – ‘Proavis’, the hypothetical reptilian ancestor of birds which Nopcsa imagined would run along the ground before taking flight. Yuliya rose to the challenge of breathing life into a 120-year-old sketch of such a bizarre creature – and lo and behold, there it was, Nopcsa’s ‘Proavis’ running at full tilt and waving its feathered arms just as Nopcsa would have imagined it! I was amazed at how smoothly and naturally the creature moved while still preserving the original vintage hand-drawn style of Nopcsa’s ink sketch. Yuliya was absolutely fantastic to work with, and everyone who has seen the film has loved watching her running dinosaur trying to escape the page it was drawn on!'
